Summer Open Day Preview
We are busy getting the site ready for our annual summer open day on Sunday 7th July. On open day you are very welcome to potter around the allotment site as it begins to reach its most productive and verdant time of the year. Our popular plant stall has flowering plants, vegetable plants and herbs at very reasonable prices mostly grown by our plotholders. We are starting to harvest the first crops of the growing season; lettuce, rhubarb, broad beans and soft fruits are rolling in and we look forward to the courgettes very soon. We should have a limited supply of fresh produce for sale as well as home made jam and chutney made from home grown produce. The site is in full bloom with flowers everywhere to keep our bee populations happy. Our beekepers will be there to show you the hives and answer your questions. For children we have a planting activity, allotment bingo and a face painter. A 'find the shed' quiz is available for everyone to hunt down some of our more interesting structures. There are lots of interesting heritage features on site to explore too. Refreshments include home made cake, BBQ, hot drinks and a bar. If you prefer to bring a picnic we have a lovely orchard area for you to spread out your blanket in and relax. Hope to see you there.
